SWINDELL RUNS DOWN COONS TO WIN “KNOXVILLE MIDGET NATIONALS”

Knoxville, IA…….Kevin Swindell of Germantown, Tenn. caught Jerry Coons Jr. on the white-flag lap with a daring pass on the inside berm in turn three, then led to the checkered flag in his Keith Kunz Motorsports Bullet Chassis/Advanced Racing Bullet/Esslinger Ford to win Saturday night’s 25-lap 8th Pepsi “Knoxville Midget Nationals” USAC Mopar National & USAC/SMRS Midget race at Knoxville Raceway. Coons passed defending race winner Brad Sweet on lap three and led for 21 laps before yielding the top spot to Swindell. Sweet finished third ahead of new series point leader Darren Hagen and 2008 series champion Cole Whitt. Brad Kuhn was Saturday’s fastest qualifier. Swindell and Hagen won heats and Brady Bacon won the semi.

MIDGETS HEAD FOR IOWA AND THIS WEEKEND’S “KNOXVILLE MIDGET NATIONALS”

Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. leads the USAC Mopar National Midget Series to this weekend’s “Knoxville Midget Nationals” at the 1/2-mile Iowa dirt oval on “Induction Weekend” at the track which hosts the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. East has a one-point lead over Darren Hagen in the latest standings.

HAGEN WIRE-TO-WIRE AT COLUMBUS

Columbus, OH…….USAC Mopar National Midget point leader Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. Led all 40 laps to win Saturday nights “JEGS Crown” Midget Super Nationals at the Columbus Motor Speedway. Hagen piloted the RFMS Racing Liberty Village/McGladrey & Pullen Beast/Esslinger Ford to the win and has a 39-point lead over Bobby East in the new standings.

LATE PASS NETS HAGEN VICTORY AT PERRIS

Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. passed Tracy Hines on the white-flag lap and led to the checkered flag to win Saturday night’s “Sokola Shootout” 30-lap USAC Mopar National & Western Midget race at Perris Auto Speedway. Hagen piloted the Liberty Village/McGladrey & Pullen Spike/Esslinger Ford to the win over Hines, Cole Whitt, Brad Sweet and Bryan Clauson. Hagen trails Sweet by eight points in the new standings going into the March 13 “Lloyd Ruby Classic” at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas. Bryan Clauson led the first 19 laps of Saturday’s race, then Hine sled the next nine before yielding to Hagen.

Strong Finish at Iowa for A.J. Fike

AJ Fike started 3rd on Saturday, May 5 at the Iowa Speedway in the #91 Hemelgarn/Johnson Racing Silver Crown Car. Radio problems plagued the team has AJ had no communication with the team early on in the race, AJ dropped as far back as 9th place. AJ ended the race in the 3rd position and moved up 3 positions in the standings to 2nd place.
